A play inspired by the king of pop, Michael Jackson, is expected to premiere in 2020 on Broadway, announced today The Estate of Michael Jackson, who reached an agreement with Columbia Live Stage to develop the show.
The musical, which still has no title, will be written by playwright Lynn Nottage, who in 2009 received the Pulitzer Prize in the theater category for “Ruined”, in which she recounts survival during the African civil war.
Nottage repeated that award in 2017 in that category for his work “Sweat”, which addresses the consequences of closing a factory in Pennsylvania.
The choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, who was recognized in 2015 with a Tony Award, will direct the show.
Jackson died on June 25, 2009 in Los Angeles from an overdose of drugs that was administered to him by his personal physician, Conrad Murray, who anesthetized him to help him fight insomnia.
